In Memory of Priscilla Gould
It is with a saddened heart that I must share the loss of yet another dear United Way friend and colleague, Priscilla Gould of Eugene, Oregon. Priscilla passed away on September 29, with her husband Jon Stout by her side, after a brief battle with cancer. For 22 years (1990 -2012), Priscilla served as the Executive Director of the United Way of Lane County, covering the environs of Springfield and Eugene, Oregon. She began her United Way career in the early 1980’s leading resource development efforts in Tucson, Arizona.
In addition to many achievements in her local community, Priscilla served numerous terms on the National Professional Council, representing small to mid-sized United Ways. In 2000, she was invited as one of just 21 national staff and volunteers to serve on the Task Force on Strengthening the United Way System, whose recommendations dramatically transformed the network towards a focus on community impact. And In 2011, she led the United Way of Lane County to become one of 10 Mobilization Markets focused on making progress on financial stability. After leaving United Way, Priscilla continued to serve as a volunteer and board member in her community on issues of homelessness and healthcare philanthropy as well as with her church.
Priscilla will be long remembered, in her community and elsewhere, as a smart and amazing leader who led with sharp purpose, quiet determination, and a genuine spirit of humility and generosity.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9 at 11am, First Congregational Church of Eugene, 1050E. 23rd Ave. Eugene, OR. A full obituary is not yet available.
