Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about our planned giving process? You’re in the right place! Below you’ll find a curated list of questions from members just like you. And if you don’t see yours listed, we hope that you’ll reach out to our team! We’re always happy to have a conversation and help you find the solution that feels right for you 🫶🏼
What happens after I submit the Declaration of Intent Form?
Once we receive your submission, our team will review the information and follow up to thank you for your planned gift! Submitting the form simply lets us know your intentions so we can recognize your generosity and ensure we understand your wishes. After we’ve confirmed the details with you, we’ll be sure to list your name on the appropriate member recognition page(s).
Do I need to notify UW NEXT if I include you in my estate plans?
While it’s not required, we would love to be notified! By doing so, we’ll have the chance to thank you, ensure we provide any details you may need from us, and recognize your commitment to supporting the future of UW NEXT!
Can I make a planned gift anonymously?
Absolutely! To do so, please fill out the Declaration of Intent form and check the box stating “I would like to remain anonymous.” Recognition is entirely optional and we’ll always respect your wishes!
What are the most common ways to make a planned gift?
Most often, our UW NEXT members choose to make a planned gift through a contribution noted in their will, as a beneficiary on their 403b plan, and/or including UW NEXT as a beneficiary on their life insurance policy. Of course, there are plenty of other giving options that you might prefer instead. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our President & CEO, Carole Peters, by email anytime.
How do I make a planned gift through my IRA, retirement account, or life insurance policy?
To make a planned gift through a policy or account, you may need to reach out to your plan administrator to name United Way NEXT as a beneficiary. If they have any questions or need any additional information from us, we are more than happy to speak with them! Please direct them to email Carole Peters, our President & CEO.
How does United Way NEXT get my planned gift?
Great question! Once you’ve Declared your Intent and informed your account administrator, estate attorney, and/or financial advisor(s), the rest is taken care of. In most cases, planned gifts are usually granted once a donor has passed away. However, the type of gift will determine if the asset transfer can bypass the will or probate. To further discuss your planned giving options and what best aligns with your wishes, please reach out to our President & CEO Carole Peters.
Can United Way NEXT help me create a will?
At UW NEXT, we know how important leaving a legacy is and we’d be honored to help you plan yours! With that being said, we are not legal advisors and we’d encourage you to work with FreeWill. Since 2018 they’ve partnered with UWW to provide United Ways (and their donors) a 100% free tool to create legally-binding wills in 20 minutes or less! For more FreeWill resources and FAQs, please checkout their landing page on United Way Online.
