A New Year of Transformation With Board Chair Ann Fox
Dear members of United Way NEXT,
Happy New Year! I don’t know about you, but I have long since given up on New Year Resolutions. Instead, I like to reflect on the year that has passed and think about all the new year has to offer. Which brings me to this letter.
As the new chair of the United Way NEXT board, I am looking forward to this year of transformation. That’s my word of the year, so you will hear it a lot from me. Maybe you already have!
Born from a retirees’ association, United Way NEXT has grown into a thriving community of retirees, alumni, and current staff bound by a common purpose: creating a better world for everyone. Built on a solid foundation laid by previous board chairs and members, volunteer leaders, and most importantly, our members, United Way NEXT will continue its growth trajectory by deepening engagement with its members by continuing those opportunities that members have told us they value as well as adding new opportunities for members to engage.
One of the new initiatives I look most forward to is the launch of a searchable Membership Directory. Since connection to other like-minded people is the greatest value our members share, this Directory will be an invaluable resource. The possibilities it presents are endless. I am also looking forward to participating as a member of the Consultant Collaborative.
Another resource for which I am most grateful is the amazing staff at United Way NEXT. Ivy and Kersten, led by Carole, have redefined what’s possible for our small but mighty organization. The level of professionalism and support they provide to me personally, our executive committee, board, and committees is unmatched. Their dedication and hard work are instrumental in the organization’s transformation.
In the coming year, I am pleased to have the support and guidance of the Executive Committee of the board. Returning members, DJ Hampton, Treasurer, Paul DeBassio, Past Chair, and new members Kiran Handa Guadioso, Chair Elect, and Paula Gilberto, Secretary; thank you for saying yes to the call to serve in these capacities.
UW NEXT Board Chairs 2022 - 2026: Deborah, Barbara, Ed, Paul, & Ann.
And lastly, to those chairs that have come before, specifically Barbara Edmond for recruiting me first as a member of United Way NEXT and then as a member of the board, and Paul DeBassio for leading by example and having the faith in my abilities as a leader. I have some big shoes to fill. I better get to work!
Looking forward to meeting many of you for the first time and reconnecting with others from “back in the day”.
All the best,
Ann
